Oregon Adventure – Part 1
Tallest trees on earth
Wild donkeys
Starfish
Hiking
Aquarium
Cheese
Whale
Fire
These are just a few of the things we saw and did during our recent trip to the Oregon Coast.
What a great adventure for J-Man and us.
Before we headed to the coast we had a roof top tent installed on top of our 4 Runner. We wanted to do as much camping as possible and this seemed like a fun and easy option. We stopped in Salt Lake for the installation and then headed out.
Our plan was to start at Bandon, OR and make our way north. As we got into southern Oregon I realized on the map that we weren’t that far from Redwood National Park in California. We had never been there and being only 1.5hrs away from our location we decided to make the short detour and head that way. I love spontaneity like that and I think that is what adds to our road trips. We never know exactly our route or our plans. Because the detour wasn’t planned, we didn’t have reservations at the campground in the national park, therefore we were out of luck camping there. We did find a small county campground about 10 minutes away and that provided us with a great camp spot right along the …… river. J-Man enjoyed throwing rocks in the river, as usual, and we used our roof top tent for the second night. (the first night in the tent was during our drive where we made a pit stop off a small dirt road, cranked up the tent and slept there)
Wild donkeys in Northern Nevada (kinda hard to see)
First night in the roof top tent
2nd night camping by the river (horrible iphone pic)
Heading to bed
The following day we decided to drive through Redwood National Park and do a short hike. Unfortunately, and to our disappointment the only road through that area of the park was closed. We were bummed.
We turned around and headed towards Oregon.
Lunch was in Old Town Bandon, OR along with some sightseeing and touristy window shopping. We did pick up some yummy fudge and visited an exquisite looking chocolate and dessert boutique – Coastal Mist. How we passed up anything in there I have no idea. Actually, they were out of what Bedge wanted and I was too busy wrangling J-Man from attacking everything in sight.
Doesn’t that look yummy?
Taking in the view from the boardwalk
After Bandon we headed to Umpqua Lighthouse State Park which provided us a great campsite near Lake Marie. There is a mile long trail that takes you around the lake. It turned out to be a great evening stroll.
Beautiful trail along Lake Marie
Taking a break to enjoy the peaceful lake.
Nice sandy beach at the lake.
Check back tomorrow for part 2 of our Oregon Adventure.

The rooftop tent looks wonderful! It looks like a moveable tree house. How fun!
